Best of the Year 2021: Yulimar Rojas and Ryan Crouser stole the show in the Diamond League

The Diamomd League once again fulfilled its usual calendar in 2021 despite the pandemic, where undoubtedly the world’s multi-champion Yulimar Rojas, as well as the now Olympic holder of the shot put Ryan Crouser, were a fundamental part of this important circuit that brings together the most exquisite of the beautiful sport.

Rojas, who has dominated the triple jump at will in the most recent seasons, signed a dream in 2021, winning his first Olympic gold with an impressive world record of 15.67 meters, which she achieved in her last attempts in the arena of the Tokyo Olympic stadium, to later also win the Diamond League, after she conquest in the finals in Zurich.

In addition, the dominance of the 4-time world triple jump holder was such that her victory in the meeting in Laussana, Switzerland, on August 26, where she set a new Diamond League record with 15.52 meters, (that day she also made 15.56, with the wind in favour) was chosen on social networks, as the Moment of the Year, surpassing in the voting, to the Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen who set the 5.000m European record, (12.48.45 minutes), in Florence, Italy, on the 10th of June.

Ryan Crouser, who in 2021, was finally crowned as the Olympic champion in the shot put, also took again the precious trophy as winner of the Diamond League, by prevailing in Zurich with 22.67 meters.

Crouser also continues to be undefeated in any type of event, since he does not give up the lead in the shot put contest, since he was silver in the 2019 Doha World Cup. Adding to that, in 2021, he set world records indoor and outdoor, even his dominance in indoor events is so prevalent that he hasn’t given up first place since the 2015 season, when he was in college and competing in the NCAA.

Rojas and Crouser will face the upcoming 2022, with the celebration in Serbia and the United States, respectively, of the Indoor and Outdoor World Championships, where they will leave as wide favourites to add new gold metals to their brilliant careers.
