The Latin American race walkers achieved an extraordinary performance in the 34th edition of the traditional Cantones Grand Prix, which was held in La Coruña, Spain and is one of the main stages on the World Athletics walking circuit.
Colombian Sandra Lorena Arenas triumphed in the 20 km in 1 hour, 28 minutes and 24 seconds, escorted by Mexican Alegna González (1:28:40) and Brazilian Erica Rocha de Sena (1:28:44).
Another five Latin Americans were in the top-10: the Ecuadorian Glenda Morejón (fourth, 1:29:50), the Costa Rican Noelia Vargas Mena (fifth, 1:30:24), the Peruvian Kimberly García (seventh, 1:32 : 13), a second Ecuadorian, Magaly Bonilla (ninth, 1:32:34) and another Mexican, Ilse Guerrero (tenth, 1:33:07).
In men, the victory went to the Spanish Diego Carrea with 1:19:37, escorted by the Swede Persus Karlstron (1:19:44) and the local Álvaro Martín Uriol (1:19:59).
The Ecuadorian Brian Pintado placed fourth (1:20:15), the Mexicans Andrés Olivas and Jesús Vega fifth (1:20:24) and seventh (1:20:32), respectively, the Guatemalan José Calel eighth (1:20:35) and Ecuadorians David Hurtado (1:20:37) and Jordy Jiménez (1:20:45) ninth and tenth.
