The Mexican Team to the first edition of the Junior Pan American Games will have a large delegation that will be made up of 374 athletes, 34 of them will be from athletics, in a very compact team led by the 400 meters World Junior runner up Luis Ferreiro Avilés.
Ferreiro Avilés has just finished in a formidable second place in the U20 World Championship that was held last August in Nairobi, Kenya, setting a great time of 44.95 seconds in the semifinals, the best crono for an Aztec sprinter, since 44.31 in Alejandro Cárdenas, when he was third in the final of that distance in the 1999 Seville Adult World Cups. Ferreiro is the first seed in the lap to the oval for Cali 2021.
Meanwhile, the long-distance runners Víctor Zambrano and Omar Castillo also stand out in the Mexico’s team in the 10000m, first and second respectively within those registered in the 1st edition of this contest. Erick Portillo in the high jump is the leader in this event and Mario Uriel López is fourth in the 5000m.
In addition, in the men’s list of the Mexican team, the presence of Aldo Zabala and Jonathan Galindo stands out in the hammer throw, they are located in the fourth and fifth position in that event. Likewise, Saúl Mena, fourth in the 20000 meters walk and Israel Tinajero who is sixth in the 800m.
In women, Fátima Alanís is the first of the 5000 meters and Luisa Daniela Baca is the dominant of the 10000 meters. Other outstanding athletes in the Mexican squad that will go to Cali are Sofía Elizabeth Ramos, fourth in the 20000 meters walk, Anahí Álvarez fourth in the 5000m and Arian Iveth Chía, sixth in the 3000 meter hurdles.
