Gemma Castaño and Frederico Nantes, technical delegates of World Athletics and the advice-giver Luis Saladie, made the second official visit to the facilities of the venues where the U20 World Athletics Championships will take place, between August 1 to 6, 2022 in Cali, Colombia.
The visit that included the Pascual Guerrero Stadium, the Pedro Grajales International Stadium and the Gym of the National Sports School, left some minimal technical details, which were accepted by the Organizing Committee, however, the functionality of this venue was highlighted, as it is up for organizing a world-wide event, taking into account that Pascual Guerrero hosted the 2015 World Youth Championship in Athletics and the Championship of the Junior Pan American Games in 2021.
The Pedro Grajales International Stadium, in which the construction of a modern athletic track is expected, will be the training ground while the gym of the National Sports School will also be available for athletes.
“We leave with the satisfaction of knowing that everything is going well, that there is excellent planning and except for some points where we have to work, we get down to work to execute everything and without brakes” said Gemma Castaño, spokesperson from the World Athletics delegation and she added, “The connection between the Pascual Guerrero and Pedro Grajales stadiums is the most perfect that can be found. Nearby places where athletes can train and warm up with widely separated areas for throws, runs and jumps”.
It is important to highlight that during the meetings, Luca Verrascina, World Athletics Competition Manager, and Pierce O’Callagham, World Athletics Competition Administrative Director, were present virtually.
